March 12, 2010: Planned Parenthood lobbying day.
ACLU Nebraska and other allies will visit the capitol to meet with state
senators and talk to them about the need to protect reproductive freedom. Contact our office for more information if you want to join us.

March 27, 2010: Ready to Run Campaign Training for Women.
The Women's Fund of Great Omaha is sponsoring this workshop, where campaign
advisers and women currently in elected office will share insights about
what's involved with running for public office. The event will be held
from 8 a.m. to noon at the Hilmer Art Gallery at the College of Saint Mary
in Omaha. Cost is $25 per person ($15 for students). Register by

March 29, 2010:
"Voices
of Honor Tour" by the Human Rights Campaign. Hear a panel of veterans
discuss why the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" law should be repealed. University of Nebraska Lincoln -Nebraska Union
Auditorium. The event will be held
from 6:30pm- 7:30pm and
is free and open to the public. Contact Karl with any questions

April 7, 2010: Defense attorney for Guantanamo detainees Emmet
Bondurant will speak twice on this day--both speeches are free and open to
the public. The first opportunity to hear his presentation will be
9:30 a.m. at tje UNL Journalism College (room to be announced) and then
again at 12 noon at the UNL law school. Bondurant will discuss how he
believes the U.S. violated Geneva Conventions in treatment and interrogation
of detainees in Guantanamo. This event is sponsored by Common Cause of
Nebraska.
April 20-21, 2010: Civil Rights Conference focusing on fair
housing and employment discrimination will be held by the Lincoln Commission
on Human Rights.
Sessions will include
presentations by Scott Moore, a former trial attorney with the US Department
of Justice and Joann Sazama, who works on immigration-related employment
issues for the U.S. Department of Justice. The cost is $35, which

May 11, 2010: Primary election day. No matter what
your party, it's your constitutional right, so get out and vote!
April 14, 2010: End of the legislative session at the
Nebraska Legislature.
April 24, 2010: Annual dinner and awards banquet for ACLU
Nebraska. Join us in Omaha as we celebrate another year's worth of
defending civil liberties. Keynote speaker is Ellery Schempp, who as a
high school student challenged Bible readings in public school in a case
that went all the way to the US Supreme Court in 1963.
