If you legally changed your name, you will need to re-register to vote. If you\u2019re unable to do so before the election deadline, you are still allowed to vote. If you changed your name and still live in the same county, you will be allowed to vote at your designated voting place. A poll worker may ask you to complete a certification and new registration form. The poll worker will either give you your ballot or a provisional ballot.\r\n\r\nIf you are worried about showing an ID when voting, Nebraska allows you to vote by mail. If voting early by mail, you will need to write your driver\u2019s license\/state ID number on ballot application or enclose a copy of valid photo ID with your application. Other counties may choose to provide translated materials, but don\u2019t have to. No matter which county you\u2019re in, you can bring an interpreter with you to your polling place or wherever you\u2019re voting. Every polling place in Nebraska should have an accessible area to cast your vote that complies with ADA standards. Voters who require assistance may designate a relative or friend to assist them at the polling place.\r\n\r\nUnder a guardianship order? A Nebraskan under a guardianship only loses their right to vote if a court order expressly takes away their voting rights or they are additionally found by the court to be \u201cnon compos mentis\u201d (mentally incompetent). \u201cMentally incapacitated\u201d for purposes of appointing a guardian is not the same as \u201cnon compos mentis.\u201d\r\n\r\nWith voting rights central to our other freedoms, many of which Nebraskans under guardianships have no or limited control over, a guardian must act in the best interest of their wards and do all they can to empower their ward to understand and exercise their voting rights. Guardians can talk to their wards about voting, the voting process, and why voting is important. If you are experiencing homelessness, your residence is the county in which you live.\r\n\r\nIf you intend to vote by mail, you may use the shelter in which you reside or the <a href=\"https:\/\/sos.nebraska.gov\/election-officials-contact-information\">Election Commissioner\u2019s office in the county where you live<\/a> as your mailing address. For the mailing of your ballot, you may choose to have your ballot sent to any location where you receive mail, like a P.O. Box, a friend\u2019s residence, your work or a shelter if you register at the election office address.\r\n\r\nID requirements can present a barrier for Nebraskans who are unhoused. You can get <a href=\"https:\/\/dmv.nebraska.gov\/dl\/state-identification-card\">a free state ID<\/a> at the Nebraska DMV.
