Bio
As staff attorney, Jamel’s work at the ACLU of Nebraska primarily focuses on immigrants’ rights, bodily autonomy and criminal legal matters connected to our Campaign for Smart Justice.
Jamel joined the ACLU of Nebraska in December 2025, bringing valuable experience in public defense and immigration law, including roles at the Lancaster County Public Defender’s Office and Immigrant Legal Center (now the Center for Immigrant and Refugee Advancement). Her professional experience also includes work supporting institutional diversity and inclusion programs at Creighton University, facilitating labor relations at Union Pacific and conducting investigatory work on home health care companies through an externship with the United States Attorney’s Office.
Jamel holds a J.D. from Creighton University Law School, a B.S. from Johnson & Wales University's Denver Campus, and an associate’s degree in paralegal studies from Kaplan College in Thornton, Colorado.
