In 2000, Nebraska added the Defense of Marriage Amendment to its state constitution, after 70 percent of voters were in favor for it. The amendment banned same-sex marriage in the state by defining a valid marriage only between a man and a woman.

Victim gets denied access to her own rape kit
Back in June of 2004, a sexual assault was reported to the Lincoln Police Department. Nearly 10 years went by with no information being shared with the alleged victim - the case was still marked open even though charges had never been filed.
