A 40 year journey to end the death penalty

One year ago today, the Nebraska Legislature did something momentous: give first round approval to a bill that would end the death penalty in Nebraska.

2016 - An incredible year for civil liberties!

At the Unicameral, the ACLU of Nebraska has put together our strongest advocacy team to date to implement our diverse and wide ranging civil rights agenda. Our client is the Constitution and our work impacts our most cherished rights, fundamental freedoms, and the civil liberties of all Nebraskans. We are effective due to our hard work, policy and legal expertise, and the strong voices and unyielding activism of thousands of supporters.

I was fired for speaking out for my mom

I had a childhood like many others. I had a loving mom and dad, an older brother who teased me and a couple of dogs running around the yard. We would read chapter books aloud which likely fostered my love of literature. Some of the happiest memories of my childhood take place on a New Jersey beach, surrounded by aunts, uncles and cousins with the various fried treats sold along the boardwalk and the waves crashing on the sand.
