In Nebraska, like every other part of our country, trans people contribute meaningfully to our communities.
The Williams Institute estimates that at least 15,700 transgender people live in Nebraska. Meet transgender Nebraskans who shared their stories with us: a farmer, veterans, artists and others.
"It was my goal to highlight our diversity — and more importantly, our joy," said two-spirit filmmaker Eli Rigatuso, who filmed some of these videos. "We are extraordinary Nebraskans who are thriving despite what we have to face.”
These Nebraskans' messages about the need for acceptance and understanding are for all us, and we hope that young LGBTQ+ Nebraskans can see themselves in this series and know that they belong in Nebraska as exactly who they are.
