Statewide Primary

• April 13, 2026: In-person early voting begins.
• April 27, 2026: Last day for voter registrations to be completed online ahead of the primary.
• May 1, 2026: Last day to register in person ahead of the primary.
• May 1, 2026: Last day for election officials to receive your request for a mailed early/absentee ballot.
• May 12, 2026: Primary Election Day – Polls are open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. CDT / 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. MT. If voting by mail, your ballot must be returned before polls close.

Statewide General

• Oct. 5, 2026: In-person early voting begins.
• Oct. 16, 2026: Last day for voter registrations to be completed online ahead of the general.
• Oct. 23, 2026: Last day to register in person ahead of the general.
• Oct. 23, 2026: Last day for election officials to receive your request for a mailed early/absentee ballot.
• Nov. 3, 2026: General Election Day – Polls are open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. CST / 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. MT. If voting by mail, your ballot must be returned before polls close.

Voting is more than an opportunity to send a message about the representation we want to see — it is a powerful way to protect our rights and communities. If it didn’t matter, partisan groups and special interests wouldn’t keep pouring money into trying to influence our votes or stop us from voting altogether. The ACLU of Nebraska is a nonpartisan organization. We do not endorse or oppose candidates or parties. Instead, we urge Nebraskans to vote like our rights depend on it and to make informed decisions at the ballot box on both candidates and ballot measures. Make a plan to vote and check in with your loved ones to make sure they have one too.

Whether voting early or on Election Day, Nebraska voters must present a photo ID to vote. In accordance with state law, valid forms of ID are:

• Nebraska state’s license
• Nebraska state ID
• Nebraska college ID
• Military ID
• Tribal ID
• U.S. Passport
• Nebraska political subdivision ID (state, county, city, public school, etc.)
• Hospital, hospice, home and community-based developmental disabilities services agency, intermediate care facility, assisted-living facility or nursing record.

Don't give up on your right to vote. If a poll worker says your name is not on the list of registered voters or provides another reason for preventing you from voting, demand to vote by provisional ballot. If you cast a provisional ballot, you’ll need to follow up with your local election authority with additional information for your ballot to be counted and to determine if your ballot was counted
